Holiday kitchen Cabinet Wreaths: How to Easily Hang

One of the easiest and most dramatic ways to dress up your kitchen for the holidays is to hang wreaths on your cabinets. But what is the best way to hang them? We’ll share my fast and easy way to hang Christmas wreaths, as well as a variety of options depending on materials you have on hand or your cabinet finish.

My Easy Method to Hang Wreaths

We love this method to hang wreaths because it couldn’t be easier. It’s also inexpensive and fast.

Supply List

• a roll of duct tape
• scissors
• a roll of your favorite ribbon.
• one wreath for every cabinet. The repetition of the wreaths makes a stunning statement.

Note: I used 10″ wreaths on my cabinets. I used 8″ wreaths on my bar area cabinets. Choose which size and style you like best. The wreaths on sale below come in a variety of sizes. Click on the picture to shop.

Here’s Jodie’s Easy Step-by-Step Duct Tape Method

1. Measure the length of one ribbon by threading the ribbon through a wreath, pulling it up and over the back of the cabinet and giving it a couple inches of space to secure to the back side of the cabinet. 
2. Cut all your ribbons to match the same length as your first ribbon.
3. To secure the ribbon in place, use two pieces of duct tape across each end of ribbon and secure them layered one on top of the other. This may seem like overkill but I found that if I used just one piece of duct tape the ribbon underneath would eventually slip free at some point during the season.
4. Finally, make sure that you attach your wreath to the center of each cabinet and continue with each wreath in the same way you did the first wreath.
5. Be sure to attach each wreath paying attention to the length of ribbon hanging down from the top of the cabinet (you can measure this with a tape measure or do this by eye-balling it) so that the wreaths hang evenly. Check as you go.

Choosing Your Ribbon

The ribbon is as much a part of the decor as the wreaths themselves.

Choose your ribbon carefully. It should enhance your color scheme.

In fact, you can base your entire room theme around the ribbon you choose.

Using Duct Tape to Hang Wreaths

Duct tape? Really? Doesn’t it remove paint? Doesn’t it leave a sticky residue? 

We’ve heard people worried about these potentialities but honestly, we’ve never had any paint removed or any residue problem.

If you are worried about your cabinets, or just don’t like duct tape, here are some more options to hang wreaths.

Julie’s Method for Hanging Wreaths

With freshly painted cabinets to protect, Julie was cautious about putting anything heavy duty onto her cabinets. 

Instead of duct tape she chose to use Velcro Command strips. 

This method cost a bit more since Velcro Command strips are more expensive than duct tape, but they did the job nicely.

How to Hang Wreaths: Supply List

• hot glue gun/glue
• scissors
• wreaths
• ribbon
• Velcro Command strips

Step by Step How to Hang Wreaths Using Velcro Command Strips

1. Measure the length of ribbon needed to hang wreaths including the wrap over the top to secure on the inside.
2. Cut all ribbons the same length.
3. Use hot glue to adhere wreath to end of ribbon.
4. Attach one Velcro Command strip to inside top edge of ribbon.
5. Attach one Velcro Command strip to inside center of cabinets.
6. Hang easily by connecting both Velcro pieces.

Why Use Hot Glue to Attach Ribbons?

Julie’s cabinets are very tall.

She realized she didn’t have enough ribbon for all eight of her cabinets if she looped the ribbon around the wreath.

She came up with the idea to use half the amount of ribbon by simply securing the ribbon with hot glue.

It worked well, and she saved a ton of ribbon.

Variations Using Command Hooks

• Another variation of Julie’s method is this. If you have plenty of ribbon, skip the hot glue and simply loop the ribbon around the wreath and tie the ribbon in a knot.
• Instead of using Velcro Command strips you can attach a Command hook upside down to the inside of the cabinet door.
• Some Command hooks actually allow the hook to slide on and off. In this case, you can slide it off during the year, and reattach to the base next Christmas.
• Some hooks are less industrial, and you can choose to either leave them up or remove for the year.
• Either way, Command hooks don’t leave any residue and will be very safe to use on all types of cabinet finishes.

My Repainted Kitchen

For those of you who have been following me for a while, you know this is my first Christmas with a brand new WHITE kitchen. I’ve been dreaming of a white kitchen for years. This year during the Covid Pandemic, I finally took the plunge and painted it myself. 

Believe it or not, it was therapeutic.

How to Hang Wreaths on Doors

Let’s talk about how to hang wreaths on doors.

Over the Door Wreath Hangers

We have to admit, we’ve never been a fan of these.

• We don’t love the way they look.
• They can scratch up the door frame,
• leave marks on the door,
• slide around,
• and can get in the way of the door easily closing.

Ribbon

We love the look of ribbon. You can match the mood of the wreath. With so many choices ribbon can blend in with your door color or you can make a statement and add to the look of your door decor.

• Simply wrap the ribbon around the wreath,
• join the ends of the ribbon,
• fold over about a half inch,
• and secure at the very top of the door with a thumbtack.
• To prevent swinging or movement of the wreath you can use a piece of double-sided tape to help secure.

How to Hang Wreaths on Glass

Since we have many glass doors, we have become experts in hanging wreaths on glass. In fact, Julie’s last house in California was very modern. She had a ton of all-glass doors, so she’s been a pro for a while.

We like to use suction cup hooks.

They come in a variety of sizes to hold different weights.

They are not fool proof. When temperatures rise, suction changes and they have a tendency to fall occasionally. But we’re not terribly bothered by this drawback. We love that they are invisible and do zero damage to our doors.

Ribbon is another solution if you don’t mind putting a small thumbtack hole in the top of your door or item.

 

How to Hang Wreaths on Mirrors
