Banish Your Bad Mood: 5 Tips
We all have bad days. Days when it’s hard to get out of bed. Days when the stress of daily demands drags us down. We have those days too. That’s why we’ve put together this list of our top 5 tips that will help banish your bad mood, before it gets the best of you. Read on to arm yourself with easy ideas to turn your negative mood into just a little bump in your day.
1. Banish Your Bad Mood: Distract Yourself.
Banish your bad mood by getting busy. Do something, anything, but get busy. Inactivity allows you to wallow in self-pity and usually causes a downward spiral. In our opinion, lying on the couch watching TV might be the worst thing you can do. It increases laziness and is depressing. Plus, it’s not distracting enough to allow you to escape from your mood. We suggest anything productive, no matter how small. You’ll feel better just for getting something accomplished.
2. Exercise.
Banish your bad mood with physical exercise. Everyone knows that endorphins are the body’s natural happy drug, and this is as real as you might hope. A brisk walk, hike or run in the great outdoors is ideal. But really, anything you can do to get moving will help.
3. Banish Your Bad Mood: Get outside yourself.
Banish your bad mood by focusing on someone else’s needs and you soon forget your own problems. If you find yourself alone, write a letter to a friend or call a friend/family member who hasn’t heard from you in a while. Another option is to go to your prayer list and pray for people who need your prayers. If possible get into action, selfless action. Go volunteer; serve lunch at a local soup kitchen, or clothing bank. Hopefully you have a couple places that are your usual spots. I like to go to a couple local convalescent homes and play my violin. I’m certain I get more out of it than they do. Nothing feels better than giving, nothing.
4. Make a list of reasons to be happy.
Banish your bad mood by making a list; a list of reasons to be happy or a gratitude list. This may sound silly but it’s my favorite. It helps you re-prioritize. It helps you see the big picture. List the little things, the big things, and anything that comes to mind. We are sure you’ll fill a page in no time at all. Looking at your handwritten list of blessings it becomes really hard to have self-pity, no matter how bad your hormones are.
5. Banish Your Bad Mood: Fake it until you make it.
Banish your bad mood by faking it. We’ve heard it before, and it might sound cliché, but it really and truly works. Put a smile on your face. It may feel forced but only for a minute. Studies actually show that a smile can lift your spirits. Another idea is to turn on your radio and sing along. You don’t even need to know the words, just hum. Music is a powerful mood lifter.
Banish your bad mood with these quick tips. Sometimes our best days start out in the doldrums for whatever reason, but with some effort (and a few tricks up your sleeves) you can feel better than ever in no time.

March Madness leaves no time for bad moods! Spring is beauty everywhere you look. It is a time of renewal, a time to see Gods handiwork! I rarely have bad moods, because as you say, there is so much to be thankful for and so many people around that appreciate a simple act of kindness or a kind word. It lifts your own spirit as you reach out to others. Thanks for the thoughts today, a great reminder!

Love the tips for banishing your bad mood, with winter lingering on and missing a dear friend of ours who passed away a year ago this time of year, I found these tips so helpful on days like today. MARCH MADNESS!!
Julie and Jodie-
I just love your tips on how to banish a bad mood. I’m sure I’ve done 4 out of 5 of these tips. Exercise was one I’ve never thought of but I’m definitely gonna give it a try now. And now that I’m thinking about it, you are correct!!! On a walk, I would be distracted by the neighborhood flowers and landscaping, beautiful homes, children at play, neighbors walking their dogs, birds singing, sunshine or rain and just the feel and smell of fresh air. Next time I’m gonna do this one for sure. Thanks for touching us with your knowledge and inspiration. God bless you girls. ????????
I love that photo of you two laughing together! What a gift you have in each other! Great tips! Gratitude always turns a mood around in a hurry! 😉
