Well, in this blog post we’re going to share our affordable decorating tips that you can use any season and in any room of your house. Here’s how I freshened up my teenagers’ upstairs TV area for fall on a small budget. Take a look at how Jodie updated her boys’ media room/study on a budget. When my 15-year-old son saw the new room, he told me he loved it and hugged me. I mean, that makes it all worthwhile right there. So here’s all the details of what I did. In this post I’m doing something new. I’m sharing with you the prices of the decor items I purchased so you can see just how inexpensively you can achieve similar results.

Pillows & Pumpkins Are Great Affordable Decorating Items

What do you think of when you think of fall? Pumpkins, right? Right. I like to sprinkle them around. So easy, so inexpensive, and so much fun. How cute is this fringed chevron pillow from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart? I saw it and had to have it. It’s got a fun, hip vibe that goes well with just about any style. Since this room has elements of modern and farmhouse, this pillow blends beautifully and adds enough pizzazz to make my kids think their mom is slightly cool. It’s only $19.88.

Mix & Match Styles

I love mixing farmhouse style elements with modern elements for a fresh, eclectic mix that doesn’t look cookie cutter. Mixing styles really adds a boldness to a room. It’s easy to let everything “match” but I prefer to mix for the sheer challenge of it. After all, besides my family it really only has to make me happy. I hope you take this same carefree approach to your decorating. Be sure it makes you happy. If there’s one rule in decorating this is the one I tell people to follow.

I decided to freshen up the look of my farmhouse style media cabinet from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart which is the central focus of the room. (Only $269) I bought this piece last year, and we all love it. It looks great and provides lots of awesome storage so the room stays tidy. I wanted to frame the flat screen TV, but not cover it up, so I chose two matching modern golden lamps. They are just the right size and modern vibe I wanted to add to this space. These lamps are only $27.78 each. Such a great value for this luxe look.

Candles are Perfect Year Round

This trio of stylized pillar candles is the perfect addition to create easy ambiance. They are LED flameless candle options are made of real wax. They are battery powered and come with a 5-hour timer switch to save on battery life. I love this ease of operation and really enjoy the look either on or off. I love to bring in the colors of the seasons with inexpensive flowers and seasonal mums. They really make a house feel like a home. So much more inviting, don’t you agree?

My Favorite Rug

Here is a glimpse at my new rug. It really cozies up the space. The style is my favorite and it’s very soft on the feet. Zero shedding and nice quality make it a perfect choice. Jodie purchased the same rug for her family room. I also purchased it for my college gathering space restyle, and now at last I have my own. It looks great in pictures, but it looks and feels even better in person. I love the rustic grey color and how the pieces tie the whole space together. The top lifts up so it can be used at a better height for eating or board games. This furniture is an amazing value at $149.00. The modern farmhouse look blends easily with so many styles.

Light up the Room with Lanterns

This rustic modern farmhouse style lantern will look perfect in my decor year round. But with a couple cute pumpkins it’s fall perfection. I added a flameless LED pillar candle (of course from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart). They come in a set of three different sizes for just $12.88. They are made of real wax, last season after season, and have the convenient 5-hour timer which is a blessing. Love the look and I love the price.

 

 

These modern rustic wood lanterns come in two sizes. Of course, I had to get both. I know I’m going to have lots of fun styling these beauties season after season.

Another simple update I made to this room was adding this cool industrial table lamp. Make it Cozy for Fall

One of my favorite additions to this fall restyle has to be these gorgeous Better Homes & Gardens Handcrafted Banded Loop Decorative Throw Pillows. Can you believe they were only $19.98 each? They look and feel like other brands that cost literally five times as much. Unbelievable.

Pictured here is my new cozy pom-pom throw. I love the look of throws. They warm up any space. But my family really loves them too. No matter what month it is, they are always wrapping themselves in these blankets, and it makes me happy to see them using my decor. This stylish cozy throw is only $16.00. Now that’s a bargain.
