how to create a relaxing bathroom retreat
We all desire a place to retreat, somewhere we can rest, unplug, and pamper ourselves; a place of privacy and quiet so we can refuel and collect our thoughts or even luxuriate in not thinking at all. The new term the kids use is “chill time.” I kinda like it. Turns out, the importance of relaxation in our increasingly high-stress world cannot be overstated. In fact, many illnesses can be linked back to stress. If we wait for our twice-a-year vacations to come around we could end up too stressed out to enjoy our daily lives. I have found a wonderful solution that I am happy to share with you, the ritual of indulging in an at-home relaxing bathroom retreat.
Create a Relaxing Bathroom Retreat
What if you had a place of luxury that invited relaxation on a regular basis? What if you had your own “spa-like retreat” at home? Well, you don’t need to do major renovations to achieve a relaxing retreat. Here I share my ideas to create a spa experience in your own home without taking out a second mortgage.
Most of us can’t afford the time or expense to travel and stay at a luxury hotel (or at least not often enough). Nor is it always reasonable to commit the funding necessary for a remodel. Short of these “drastic solutions” I want to show you how to add small luxuries to create your own relaxing bathroom retreat to improve your daily quality of life.
A beautiful silver tray holds a container of bath salts, french-milled soap, and two fragrances of luxury bath oil. They are all easily at hand for convenience and add together to create a tasteful bath vignette.
Doctors have revealed that there is no system in our bodies NOT affected by stress. So, creating a beautiful and relaxing bathroom retreat is not just a luxury but more along the lines of necessity. Read more about how to leave worry behind in our post Don’t Worry Be Happy!

The Importance of De-stressing
This list is downright scary! And I don’t want to scare you, but I wanted to show you that the affects of stress are REAL. I know I saw myself in the second part of no. 25. Hmmm, do you think if I soak a little longer I’ll be able to resist the dollar aisle at Target?
So in all seriousness, I LOVE my newly created habit of soaking in my relaxing bathroom retreat. I shut the door to the outside world. Sometimes it’s the only place I can have total peace. I light a fragrant candle, turn the stereo on low, dim the lights, and draw a hot bath. With my luxury Turkish towels already waiting, and all my bath products close at hand, all I have to do is step in.

The walls of marble and Jacuzzi jets are several features that make this bathroom feel like a luxury hotel experience every day.
This Aidan Gray bench is the perfect addition to this bathroom decor. Not only does it look luxurious it functions beautifully as a place to repose. The custom chandelier adds glamour to the overall mood.
Enjoy & Unplug
One of the best things about enjoying a relaxing bathroom retreat is that it forces us to unplug. And if you are anything like me (overly attached to my cell phone) this is more important than ever. I like to use the time to clear my mind so I can hear God speak. Sometimes I pray, but usually I listen. I get many of my great inspirations from this quiet time.
I love to use bath oils so my skin is soft and doesn’t dry out. Lollia brand bath oils are among my absolute favorites. The fragrances are all amazing and the bottles add beauty to your decor. I also love bubbles and various bath salts (see below to shop my favorites). All these combine to help my body relax and my mind let go of any worries or distractions from the day. It’s the perfect recipe for a total recharge from a hectic schedule.
Create a healthy habit. It is much more important to create a lifestyle change, something you enjoy and benefit from on a regular basis than waiting for a “treat” that happens only once in a while.
Take Steps toward Health with a Relaxing Bath Retreat
Today many of us are on permanent stress overload. With not enough hours in a day to complete our to do lists it is more critical than ever that we attain some relaxation and calm in our daily schedules. Not only is my “spa time” enjoyable but the reduction of stress can have lasting health benefits. Making stress reduction a priority can prolong and improve our lives. I hope these suggestions encourage you to make some changes in your surroundings and in your daily habits so you too can enjoy the benefits of a private and relaxing bathroom retreat.

Hi Natalie,
Yes, we all need to make time for ourselves. Otherwise, we find we are depleted and have nothing left to give. So “being selfish” from time to time is actually essential and not selfish at all! Jodie and I are so happy you found your way to our blog. We want to welcome you and hope that we have many more opportunities to interact in the future.
Happy Holidays, and God bless,
Julie & Jodie
