Styling A Coffee Table: Fall Decor Tips & Tricks
Welcome to our Fall Coffee Table Tour. We think styling a coffee table shouldn’t be a chore. Jodie and I hope we can make it fun and easy with these tips & tricks. We are ready to share our decorating ideas so you can create your own masterful coffee table vignettes.
Hopefully you’ll take away some general techniques for styling and tips for how we achieve our end results, as well as specific ideas to use for your own table-top vignettes.
Finally, we provide sources so you can find similar pieces we’ve used on our tables and in our decor. First Jodie’s, then Julies. Welcome to the tour.
Jodie’s Coffee Table
What’s on my coffee table? Actually, I’m excited just to have a coffee table. When we decided to join in this monthly Coffee Table Blog Tour, my initial response was excitement. My second thought was sheer panic when I realized I had been masquerading my ottoman as a coffee table all this time. After I had calmed down and gone through my brainstorm of options, I was left with one truly brilliant idea. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it ages ago. You guessed it; it was time for a swap. I traded my ottoman in my family room for my more formal table from the formal living room, which isn’t actually formal at all. Voila, a new coffee table. I’m so excited to reveal it to you for this occasion.

How to Decorate For Fall Like a Professional
The Table
Here is how the coffee table looks in the room.
I love it from a purely aesthetic perspective. It really balances the white couch and the brightness of the room, grounding the room.
The detail of the carved door (which unfortunately you can’t see from these pics) and the reflection of the glass add more elegance and drama to my casual setting.
And, from a functional perspective, I love how big it is.
With the ottoman, I never had enough places for decor and a place to put my water glass. It feels like I upgraded to the Cadillac of all coffee tables.
Now I have plenty of room for my decor, my flowers and maybe the occasional dinner in front of the TV scenario. Like that ever actually happens.
Begin with Color
What’s on my coffee table? I wanted to lead with a fun, rich flower color to go with the purple velvet pumpkins I found.
Violet mums, a mercury glass pumpkin and my all-time favorite go-to tray, this Moroccan style white wood and mirrored tray from World Market.
How to Decorate The Coffee Table for Fall
- White pumpkins for the season are a must.
- I have pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, real and faux, of all different colors.
- The wire basket adds more texture as do the natural wood beads.
- Another coffee table essential are candles. Lit or unlit their fragrance gives us all the fall feels.
This one is Black Fig from Agape (my personal fav), but I love the fall scents. Don’t even get me started on her year-round collection. These candles are affordable luxury you cannot pass up.
Beautiful inside and out, these candles are just like their maker, our dear friend Rachel.
More Coffee Table Options
- Coffee table books are a staple, and no self-respecting coffee table should be caught without them.
- My white ceramic pitcher and two-week old hydrangeas.
Side Note: After killing every bunch of grocery store hydrangeas I ever bought, I swore off them. For over a year I didn’t buy them. When I couldn’t stand it anymore, I decided I was going to try again.
I researched how to handle them without allowing them to wilt. Ever since they last 2-3 weeks for me every time I buy them. If there is interest, I will write an easy blog post about it. Let me know in the comments.
Let’s Talk About Pillows
Beyond my coffee table is my 12-year-old pottery barn off-white couch.
It may have seen better days (surviving two dogs and two boys), but it is the perfect backdrop for my true obsessions: pillows.
I love neutrals and I love texture, so this is where I really love to indulge. “Background” pillows I often find at Target and HomeGoods, but my “Starlet” pillows are handmade treasures from Bianca with lavender and grace. This link is for your shopping convenience.
Beyond the Couch
Beyond the couch are my re-purposed frames that I stole from my boys’ rooms.
I decide to create this wall collage of botanical prints.
I swapped out my boxwood wreath for this old book page wreath that I crafted last year. It’s the same color as wheat and goes perfectly with my neutral/texture obsession.
Julie’s Coffee Table
Begin with a Theme
How do I style my coffee table?
I like to choose a theme for cohesion.
This month my theme is natural Fall.
Fall means so many different things.
For this table I choose to express fall through natural decor. I love using elements from nature, and Fall is the perfect time to draw inspiration from the great outdoors.
The Fall Table Elements
Here are the elements I chose:
- a faux evergreen plant in a rustic-looking basket
- pumpkins
- a bird
- seed
- antlers
- a wreath.
These all represent the theme: nature. In addition, I have a tray that is rustic and very natural-looking. The books are a neutral building block.
Choosing A Color Palette
I know it looks like everything is floating; that’s my glass coffee table.
Keeping the colors soft and neutral, I wanted more than just a “sea of white.”
So, along with the natural colors provided by the antlers and wood, I decided to bring in soft greens.
I added this Pottery Barn green pumpkin CANDLE, yes, it’s a candle. I’ve had it for years. The other pumpkin has a bit of green in it as well. And the grass wreath carries the soft green again.
The evergreen plant supplies a darker green hue which compliments the color scheme.
Texture
Next, I love to add interest by using a variety of textures.
Lots of texture is added by the wheat bunch on the tray and the grass/wheat wreath.
The rustic reclaimed wood tray is all about texture: so real and raw. It is a new addition to my table. It’s amazing. I call it my “traveling tray” because it looks good everywhere.
This tray goes great with my natural theme and is a perfect stage for my rustic antler candle holder. I love repeating the theme of the antlers on the pillow, because it ties things together, don’t you think?
Happy decorating!

Currently it sounds like Movable Type is the preferred blogging platform out there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
Napoleon, Thank you for your inquiry and for visiting our blog. We don’t know what the preferred blogging platform is in the industry. We use WordPress. Best wishes, Julie & Jodie

Hi! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Cheers!
Hi There, I am sorry that Jodie and I are still pretty new to blogging. We are still learning all the technical aspects. We need help in these areas as well. We certainly wish we were a wealth of knowledge in that department…at this point we might be asking you 🙂 If you learn it yourself please come back and share! We wish you blessings and great success with your blog. Julie & Jodie
Heya! I understand this is sort of off-topic however I needed to
ask. Does operating a well-established website such as yours require a lot of work?
I am completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my diary daily.
I’d like to start a blog so I will be able to share my own experience and views online.
Please let me know if you have any kind of recommendations or tips
for new aspiring blog owners. Thankyou!
Hi There,
Thank you so much for stopping by our blog and for your inquiry. The answer to your questions is slightly complex. Blogging is actually a lot more involved and a lot more complex than it appears. It is very computer technical. It is a lot more than writing. Learning how to blog is an ongoing art/science. There is so much “behind the scenes” that people don’t realize. If you just want to share online and you don’t really care how many people see it, you can just do that. But if you want it to be successful you probably need to hire someone to create it and you have to work other social media platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook in order to bring traffic. You also need to learn the science of SEO, Search Engine Optimization, so people can find your blog. To be successful you need to commit a lot of time, but if you are passionate about what you are doing it is worth it. Hope that helps even a little. Blessings, Julie
“Im thankful for the blog article.Really looking forward to read more.”
I am so glad! Thank you for stopping by, reading, and taking the time to leave a kind reply. Jodie and I appreciate your support so much! We hope you will stop back often, as our goal is to hopefully share about 3 new blog posts a week. Thank you again, with love & gratitude, Julie & Jodie

Well Martin, Thank you for stopping by our blog. If you just want to write a blog for your own intrinsic rewards it can be fun and worthwhile (and not that much work). But if you are looking to really build a following and monetize it it’s A LOT of work. There is so much more than goes into building a blog than meets the eye. If you don’t care how “successful” it is and just want to share like I said, it’s fun and not too difficult. We wish you the best on your journey. With gratitude, Julie & Jodie
Hey really nice article very informational.

We appreciate your support and love that you found our article informative. We hope you will visit often. Please never hesitate to ask questions and always say “hi” when you can. Thank you so much, Donna. The couch is from Pottery Barn. They still sell the exact one. It’s the PB classic slipcover. Best, Jodie & Julie
